The summer of 2004 was a very busy time for our church. We participated in a mission trip to Hendersonville, North Carolina sponsored by ServiceWorks. We traveled with a group of 23 members from throughout New Hope Presbytery to the Presbyterian Triennium held at Purdue University, we completed our basketball court project and finished work on the Peggy Hudgins Memorial Garden.

Hendersonville Mission Trip

In July, 32 people from the Butner Presbyterian and Oxford Presbyterian churches traveled to the mountains in Hendersonville, North Carolina to do home repairs for local disadvantaged families. The mission trip was done through a larger organization, ServiceWorks. Our volunteers were split into two separate work groups, the teen boys and several men repaired major structural damage at the home of a retired Baptist minister while the other group painted, repaired floors and did general cleaning inside the home of Elaine and Kristin.

Presbyterian Triennium

Two adults and two youth from BPC attended the Presbyterian Triennium held at Purdue University in July. After much planning, an amazing amount of organizing, and the willing help of many volunteers, the Presbyterian Youth Triennium is held every three years at Purdue University, and it has been since 1983 (The first Triennium, in 1980, was held in Bloomington at Indiana University.) The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America unite to bring together over 5,500 participants for a week of fun, relaxation and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

Basketball Court

We have finished construction of our outdoor basketball court and it has become the favorite meeting place of the church’s youth and their guests.  We are really excited about this addition and we thank everyone who contributed to the project to make it a reality. We look forward to all the Christian fellowship and physical activity it will create for church members and their guests.

Memorial Garden

Phase 1 of our Peggy Hudgins Memorial Garden has been completed and the official dedication was held on November 21st, 2004. The project was coordinated by Justin McNair as an Eagle Scout project and was made possible through generous donations by church members and friends. The labor was provided by the Scout troop, church members and youth of the church.
